Fiberscope Upgrades Pipe Robot With Motorized Cable Drum

October 12, 2022
Fiberscope.net has announced a new upgrade for its Troglotrek portable robotic pipe crawler that offers a fully motorized cable drum. The upgrade helps ensure the smooth operation of the extra-long 984-feet cable, preventing it from twisting and entangling.
The Troglotrek is a robotic pipe crawler designed to assist technicians with inspection projects. The new drum is able to maintain consistent cable tension during all work stages, which keeps the cable from twisting and getting entangled, which often will halt the inspection process. The company said one trained operator can handle the crawler with ease, and the entire set can be carried by one person and transported in a compact car.
The Troglotrek consists of a control unit with a cable drum, monitor and a robotic tractor. The tractor is controlled by the monitor hub on top of the cable drum, and the hub has a color display and keyboard used to generate alphanumeric notes during the inspection. Additional features include an inclinometer, an on-screen footage counter, and internal pressure sensors. The drum holds a Kevlar-coated reinforced cable with a length up to 300 meters (984 feet). The steerable, motorized all-wheel drive tractor carries a high-resolution pan-and-tilt camera head. An optional Wi-Fi module can be used for wireless data transfer, and the system also includes optional auxiliary lights and an extension wheelset. The pipe tractor has been designed to inspect pipes of 4-inches or greater.
