Artie Max Coding Robot Emphasizes Art in STEAM

August 24, 2021
Educational Insights, a toy company that aims to inspire a love of learning in every child, has announced its new coding robot. The Artie Max coding robot is aimed at children ages 8 and above to learn advanced coding concepts through STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) learning. The coding and drawing robot aims to help kids develop critical thinking skills for engineering tasks, as well as inspire them to use creativity in a unique and modern way.
The robot includes challenges with five coding languages: Blockly, Snap!, JavaScript, Python, and C++), including learning how to code line-by-line to create “tangible art masterpieces” they can share with others.
The company said 77% of parents believe coding is the most important skill their child will need to succeed in the digital economy (CodeWizards HQ, 2020 Survey). Educational Insights said that playing with Artie Max can jumpstart a child’s interest in STEM, and allow them to practice and understand skills that can help them in future careers. The addition of art in a STEM curriculum lets the kids get started right out of the box. By connecting Artie Max to any Wi-Fi-enabled device, kids can code a design and watch Artie complete a creation on paper. The company said kids are inspired to increase the level of coding difficulty as they go from simple shapes to colorful artwork, such as a spirograph using more complex coding languages like Python.
“What’s most special about Artie Max is the ability to grow with it from drag-and-drop Blockly all the way to learning C++, one of the most well-known programming languages in the world,” said Lisa Guili, general manager of Educational Insights. “Not only are kids growing their coding knowledge with Artie Max, but at the same time they are building their confidence and drawing inspiration to learn skills that can potentially be used the rest of their lives. Artie Max embraces all components of STEAM by educating kids on how to problem solve and express themselves creatively.”
The robot includes features such as edge detection, line detection, and remote control functionality. Its light-up mouth and LED eyes can also be coded to different colors and expressions, showing off its personality through emotions and sounds when creating the art using three included colored pens.
The robot retails for $109.99, and is available at the Educational Insights website. Tutorials, coding challenges and seasonal designs are available at the Codewithartie.com website.
