Resgreen Reports Positive Results for LilBuddy Mobile Robot Test

Resgreen Group International, which develops mobile robotics, has announced a partial release of pilot testing for its LilBuddy robot. Extensive testing of two important features has wielded positive results involving maneuverability with the use of four omnidirectional casters and travel over uneven surfaces in both indoor and outdoor environments.
The omnidirectional casters use small, free-spinning roller wheels located on the outside diameter, Resgreen said. This lets LilBuddy change direction without the normal restrictions imposed by traditional casters. Typically, omniwheels have replaced the drive-wheels on robots that can strafe (move sideways). Resgreen said while strafing may provide some additional maneuverability, omniwheels tend to hamper the ability for the robot to travel and stop on any grade. Because of this, LilBuddy includes two high-torque, brushless drive-wheels with powerful electronic braking, Resgreen said. This configuration allows zero degree turning without the loss of traction, and stable standing on graded inclines.
The LilBuddy robot also includes an independent shock system for each drive-wheel, which permits stable travel over uneven surfaces and thresholds. When paired with the mobility provided by the omnidirectional casters, this lets LilBuddy travel through several different environments. Resgreen said texting continues to demonstrate LilBuddy experiencing no issues in crossing doorway thresholds, well-worn factory floors, and loading docks.
