DeTect Introduces Dual-Function Bird and Drone Radar System

August 4, 2022
DeTect Inc., which develops fully integrated radar and advanced remote sensing technologies, has announced the introduction of a dual-function bird and drone radar operational system for U.S. military installations – the MERLIN BDR-DDR. Developed in 2003 for real-time, tactical operational birdstrike avoidance, the MERLIN system now has TRUE3D technology for simultaneous bird and drone detecting capabilities.
The company said the technology can be integrated with radar-directed electro-optic, infrared (EOIR) camera systems and DroneWatcher radio frequency drone detection and interdiction. The system comes in either a fixed or mobile design, and is fully self-contained with all system hardware, software and integration included.
“The dual configuration is a game-changer for air bases and commercial airports that can now have a two-in-one system for tracking both birds and drones,” said Mike Bierman, project manager at DeTect. “DeTect’s dynamic multibeam TRUE3D radar scans and updates target data cross the entire 3D volume, continually out to 5+ km in all weather, 24/7.”
Other products from DeTect include the Harrier Security and Surveillance Radars, the DroneWatcher counter-UAS system, MERLIN bird and bad radars for environmental applications, and the Harrier Aircraft Detection Lighting System.
