AdventHealth to Deploy Automated Pharmacy Kiosks in Florida

August 10, 2022
AdventHealth has announced it will deploy SpotRx pharmacy kiosks to make it more accessible to patients to fill prescriptions before they leave a doctor’s office. The kiosks will provide acute and chronic medications, over-the-counter products as well as creams, ointments, eyedrops and test strips.
The kiosks are developed by MedAvail Holdings, a technology-enabled pharmacy organization that provides turnkey services through its proprietary robotic dispensing platform, the MedAvail MedCenter. The SpotRx Pharmacy is the retail pharmacy brand owned and operated by MedAvail in the U.S.
The kiosks will not house controlled substances such as diazepam or oxycodone, Adventhealth said. Patients insert a prescription receipt and the kiosk automatically dispenses the medication. AdventHealth said the kiosks are currently available at AdventHealth Care Pavilion Westchase in Hillsborough County, and will be installed later this year at AdventHealth Care Pavilion Heathbrook in Marion County.
“We are committed to making it easy for our patients by finding innovative ways to deliver health care that fits into busy schedules,” said John Johannessen, senior executive officer of non-acute, AdventHealth West Florida Division. “Our partnership with SpotRx provides another time-saving convenience at our Care Pavilions so patients can get the care they need and not have to make another stop before they get home.”
AdventHealth said the Care Pavilions aim to focus on making health care easier to access while enhancing the overall patient experience.
“We are excited to partner with AdventHealth to expand patient access to our differentiated pharmacy solutions in Florida,” said Mark Doerr, CEO of MedAvail. “We are additionally pleased to leverage our new hub pharmacy in Tampa to service these clinics. We look forward to serving AdventHealth patients through this collaboration and broadening our footprint in Florida where we see a tremendous opportunity and need for SpotRx.”
