Dobot and its U.S.-based distributor DB Cobots, has announced the addition of its 3 kg and 10 kg cobots to the existing 5 kg version of the Safe Skin models, to enable more industries and companies to use collaborative robots (aka cobots) with the safest technology available.
Dobot’s standard line of industrial cobots are inherently safe by stopping when the arm makes contact with an object, the company said. The Safe Skin add-on, a silicone-buffered wearable collision-detecting product customized by Dobot, offers an additional layer of safety by allowing the robot arm to sense and object and stop before the arm touches the object. When the object is removed, the robot arm continues along its original path.
When the robot is in safety function proximity pause mode, Safe Skin dynamically perceives any intrusive entity with an adjustable distance up to 15 cm to the arm, and it can respond within 0.01 seconds and achieve an emergency stop within 0.1 seconds, Dobot said.
This pre-collision sensing technology quickly intervenes in the robot’s action before a collision occurs, without the need for early warning and speed reduction. In this way, it can avoid damages and fully meet the requirements of high efficiency and high safety in industrial production, the company said.
The Safe Skin add-on is available on the CR3S (6-axis, 795 mm reach, 3 kg payload), CR5S (6-axis, 1096 mm reach, 5 kg payload) and CR10S (6-axis, 1525 mm reach, 10 kg payload) models.
