Omron i4H SCARAOmron today announced its latest industrial robot, the i4H SCARA robot series, which will allow manufacturers to produce high mixes of products at low volume to offer a wider variety of goods. The i4H SCARA series follows the recent release of its i4L light-duty SCARA robot.

With payloads up to 15 kg, the i4H can meet demands of mass customization, and features unique design features, the company said. For example, it simplified the design of complex tools by incorporating the EtherCAT module that is connected directly on the robot arm. New embedded controller technology equals less space and less maintenance as well. Interactive maintenance features are also built into the new robot.

“In today’s global economy, the impact of COVID-19 is undeniable. It has placed strict social distancing requirements and safety protocols in all factory operations,” said Motohiro Yamanishi, senior general manager of the robotics business development project at Omron’s industrial automation company. “The need for a customized production line is now more important than ever before. The i4H plays a key role in automating workflow while allowing workers to socially distance and focus on other tasks.”

The company said the i4H can be an ideal addition to a production line with applications such as palletizing and machine loading in the food and beverage industry. “Omron’s i4H SCARA robot fulfills the need for reliability when dealing with heavy payloads that need to be fast and precise, around the clock,” said Tom Mathias, president and CEO of Omron Robotics and Safety Technologies, Inc.

Omron said the EtherCAT connectivity enables synchronization between other automation devices, facilitating advanced assembly, inserting and mounting processes that require high accuracy and demanding throughput. It is available in a wide range of configurations to fit any work cell, the company added.

In addition to the 15 kg payload, the i4H features:

  • 650 nm, 750 nm, and 850 nm reach options
  • A standard 210 nm or 410 nm long quill option
  • Mounting options that include the floor, wall (summer 2021), or inverted from a ceiling
  • Ethernet-enabled programming (summer 2021)
  • Health status lighting indicators
  • Interactive maintenance features (summer 2021).
