WiBoticPowerPad400x275WiBotic, which develops autonomous charging and fleet energy management systems for robots, has announced it received the CE Mark approval for two of its wireless charging systems. The marks demonstrate that products traded in the European Economic Area meet rigid safety, health, and environmental protection requirements. The approvals extend on the company’s prior approvals under similar U.S. FCC regulations.

The two systems that received the CE Marks include the WiBotic TR-301 transmitter with OC-301 onboard charger (300 watts); and the TR-301 transmitter with OC-251 onboard charger (250 watts). The company’s systems were also evaluated and found in compliance with the requirements of the International Electrotechnical Commission’s (IEC) directives for the EU and Canada’s CSA Group standards organization. Key parameters tested across all agencies include radiated emissions, harmonic emissions, AC conducted emissions, RF immunity, RF exposure, and overall product safety, WiBotic said.

“CE Marks represent a major product milestone for us,” said Ben Waters, CEO of WiBotic. “Completing the rigorous testing requirements takes a great deal of time and effort, yet it’s an incredibly important process, as it further validates that our systems meet the highest possible standards for safety and reliability.”

Waters said the European mark approval and FCC approval in the U.S. open several partnership and deployment opportunities in Europe, Canada and other parts of the world. “Requirements for robot safety standards and certifications have also evolved significantly over the past five years,’ he said. “We hope that these certifications help our partners and the entire robotics industry scale up quickly to avoid the complex and costly bottlenecks of pursuing certifications on their own.”

WiBotic System

The TR-301is WiBotic’s high power transmitter, which can transmit up to 300 watts into several applications. The system is most often used for larger drones, mobile robots and marine vehicles. It can be used in the WiBotic PowerPad (or other landing pads), as well as a wall station for mobile robot charging A metal enclosure includes flanges for wall mounting, an LCD display for system messages, and LED indicator lights that show the system’s status. A standard transmitter antenna attaches via short coaxial cable for other mounting options, and a built-in Ethernet port allows external systems to monitor and control the transmitter through WiBotic’s web-based API or WiBotic Commander for fleet energy management.

The TR-301 supports the OC-251 and OC-301 onboard chargers, which can mount on a drone or robot to control battery charging when the robot lands or docks. The company said its products can be retrofitted onto existing robots by end users, or built into new models by robot manufacturers. The chargers are compatible with most types of battery chemistries and fully programmable between 0-60 volts and 0-30 amps (OC-301) or 0-12 amps (OC-251). The chargers also support manual plug-in charging or autonomous contact-based charging through an auxiliary DC power input. Chargers can communicate to the drone or robot via CANbus.
