InOrbit Creates Developer Portal, Expands RobOps Ecosystem With Partnerships

InOrbit, which last month launched a Free Edition of its cloud-based robot operations (RobOps) platform, has announced the launch of its Developer Portal as well as a number of partnerships with other robotics companies and developers. The Development Portal is a centralized collection of development tools that aims to help software engineers and roboticists build scalable robotics solutions.

The Developer Portal is an online toolbox that includes application programming interface (API) endpoints, software development kits (SDKs) and no-code embeds that augment a company’s branded experiences. The portal also includes link to a growing number of InOrbit’s open-source contributions, such as support for interoperability standards and a sample integration for Google Chat.

Developer Portal access is also free, which allows developers of the next generation of robots to combine tools with the InOrbit Free Edition to accelerate their development, rather than starting from scratch, the company said.

“As engineers ourselves, we always want to create tools that solve problems and can be incorporated as part of the robotics development workflow,” said Julian Cerruti,  CTO and co-founder of InOrbit. “With the Developer Portal and our Free Edition, we’re making it easier for developers to find the right components and get started quickly, freeing up time to focus on the differentiating features that make their robots unique.”

Florian Pestoni, CEO and co-founder of InOrbit, expanded on the reasons why the company decided to launch the Free Edition, which he insists that a company can use for as many robots and as long as they’d like to, with no trial periods or credit-card required. “We’re not giving away the whole farm,” wrote Pestoni on a company blog post. “We’re not trying to trick anyone – we even publish our price. For companies with more advanced needs, like tools for root cause analysis, advanced teleoperation, video storage, and more out-of-box integrations, we offer our Standard Edition and some optional Add-ons.” Pestoni said friction such as being required to enter a credit card could prevent some robotics students, developers or others in small or large companies from trying out the InOrbit platform. “By going free, we hope to remove this friction so many more people will give InOrbit a shot,” he added.


InOrbit also launched its ecosystem, which includes several companies that have complementary products and services. Together, InOribt said it plans to work with these companies to offer the best solutions to address specialized needs across different verticals.

“InOrbit’s data platform can take care of common RobOps needs for most robots in the real world,” said Pestoni. “At the same time, we know that each robot and deployment is unique. Now developers and robot operators have access to the tools they need to connect their robots to the cloud – and to everything else.” This can include things like IoT sensor data, spatial intelligence, advanced video, and routing algorithms.
