Image Development Systems (IDS), which manufactures industrial cameras for image processing, has announced updates to its IDS NXT AI vision system, which focuses on simplifying app creation.
The company said the initial phase of development is often one of the greatest challenges for customers. The new Application Assistant in IDS NXT lighthouse lets users configure a complete vision app under guidance in just a few steps, which they can run directly on an IDS NXT camera. With the new Block-based Editor, users can configure their own program sequences with AI image processing functions, such as object recognition or classification, without any programming knowledge. In a few minutes, users can create simple sequences through the visual code editor without having to know the syntax of a specific programming language, IDS said.
WIth the Use Case Assistant, IDS supports users in creating Vision App projects, letting customers select the use case that fits their project. With queries and tips, the assistant guides a user through the process of creating the Vision App project, and creates the code, just like in an interview. The software links existing training projects with the vision app project, or creates new training projects and data sets in IDS NXT lighthouse if required.
With predefined blocks of the code editor, users can build a vision app graphically, including processes such as loops and conditional statements, IDS added. A demonstration of this can be found in the IDS Vision Channel, including the session, “Build AI Vision apps without coding” (free registration required).
Version 2.6 of the IDS NXT system offers several workflows and tools for creating AI vision applications. The cameras can process tasks on device and deliver image processing results themselves, based on tasks created by apps that are uploaded to the cameras. This allows a camera’s functionality to be changed at any time. The system is supported by the IDS NXT lighthouse software, which lets users train neural networks as well as vision apps.
