Humatics, which develops highly precise location-based radio frequency technology, has announced the release of a new microlocation transponder that is 66% smaller than its previous version. The smaller size aims to open a new level of deployment options for the market, which includes robotics applications, the company said.
The Humatics transponder is an electronic tag that is attached to a high-value asset, enabling its location to be digitized, with a unique ID, and streamed many times per second to provide real-time positioning. The specific positioning data enables localization, navigation, and collaboration of robotics, tooling, surgical instruments, and even humans, the company said.
“The reduction in size enables the transponder to easily fit on a human, a robotic arm, a tool, and many other assets that can benefit from location digitization,” said Shawn Henry, CEO of Humatics. “This enables many improvements, including real-time disparate robotic interaction, human and robotic collaboration, tool tracking and other high-value use cases.”
Humatics said its system enables any control system to receive the precise location of items that are utilizing the transponder. The system is capable of sub-millimeter precision, while delivering highly valuable data regarding the asset’s movement, including pose, pitch, yaw, and speed. The data can be used to control assets in real time, to digitize human movement for robotic interaction to make process improvements, identify manufacturing issues, and other use cases.
